The New Paradigm for Today’s Multigenerational Society

NEW REVIEW: Every Generation Needs A New Revolution, by Linda S. Thompson, is a book that should be mandated as required reading by the Federal Bureau of Good Business Practices for any person in the United States who attains the age of 30. That is an opinion, certainly. However, in that this is my review, I am permitted to voice my opinion...” – Don McCauley, Performance Based Marketing And Publicity

We are living longer, more productive lives. That is the good news. Often, however, this results in a stressful clash of values and belief systems among the generations. That is the bad news. It goes without saying that this friction takes a tremendous toll on families, businesses and organizations of every size and description; most likely including yours. That is the really bad news.

Misunderstandings in all aspects of today’s society often result because we don’t take the time to understand each other and find ways to peacefully coexist. These issues not only exist within our family units; they are often even more pronounced in our work environment. Sometimes we feel at a loss - not because we don't wish to overcome the problem, but rather because we simply don’t know how. What is even more potentially devastating is that often we are not even aware that this is happening.

Whether the problem is with a family member, a spouse or our business associates, we often know that something is not right, but we can't quite put our finger on 'what is wrong'. The generational issue often lies below the surface in these relationships and remains unrecognized. It can cause divorce as easily as it can create bankruptcy.

You have experienced this generation gap. We all have. Burying one's head in the sand and hoping this will somehow magically change is not the solution.

Readers of Linda S. Thompson’s book, Every Generation Needs a New Revolution, will learn about the six generational groups and what make them who and what they are. The generation gap often masquerades as stress and friction between these well-defined groups. In this revealing work, you will also:

  • Learn that it’s not what you say, but how you say it
  • Understand what motivates each group
  • Discover communication skills apropos for each generational group
  • Develop understanding and appreciation of generational differences and strengths

We have four distinct generations in most work environments. It’s only human nature that there will be conflict, differences of opinion, and sometimes sheer chaos in the office. Companies are struggling to retain staff and keep “peace in the family.” It is in the workplace that the generational clash becomes not only a personality clash, but also a productivity problem and a monetary issue. Generational issues, on a small scale, can slow down productivity. On a large scale, these inherent differences can destroy companies.

Unspoken generational issues can send your best employees packing, giving excuses such as “I am not comfortable here anymore” or “It's just not the same.”

All companies change with time. However, as the balance between these groups shifts, it can cause the 'old hands' to resent the 'new guys.' Or, perhaps the 'new kids on the block' will see your best employees as 'old fogies,' stuck in their ways and not open to change. The list is endless.

Nonetheless, without taking a preemptive stance, it is you, and your company, who will pay the price.

This generational friction and stress can be like a cancer within your organization. By the time you realize it is there, it may be too late.

Whether it’s a keynote address, onsite training or a breakout session, Linda S. Thompson’s topics have been well received. Linda is at her best when presenting content rich messages with a humorous style.

“Linda’s style of writing takes a subject that could be dry and makes it wildly entertaining. I have never seen her speak in public, but I believe that if she merely stood at the podium and read verbatim from this book she would have them rolling in the aisles.” – Don McCauley, Performance Based Marketing And Publicity
